Ah Sunday

It seems I have hit another weight loss plateau. I haven't lost any weight in a week - in fact I had gained some, but then dropped back down. I know I shouldn't be discouraged, but it can be hard when you have grown accustom to loosing 10 pounds a week. Now I start fretting over 'bad' eating days where my calorie count edges towards 1000. Typically my goal is 600 and I usually stay between 500-800.

This morning I had to go help mom get some pictures printed from her phone. It is nice to live so close to mom and sis. Though I would have preferred the remote in program to have worked but alas I am having trouble getting Team Viewer to work consistently on mom's Galaxy S3. The program works great for computers, and to remote from my phone to my computers, but remoting into a phone - not so much.

Tegmine and I had a nice lunch at Jack-in-the-Box. I ate a little over half a spicy chicken sandwich - which is a bit much for me really, have to work on that self control - sad Morgan. Nice to spend time together. Also good to keep his spirits up - told him about sis's option that we should try suing his company for wrongful termination. They seriously deserve it.

We went to the Gym today - Tegmine found my folder. I didn't recognize some of the exercise - thank goodness for google and smart phones. They were all things I know, I just didn't know the names. And lunges, guh I hate lunges. My full body workout is 3 circuits of:

  • Ball slams(16lb) (x15)
  • Ball throws to backboard (8lb) (x15)
  • Woodcut throws to trampoline (8lb)(x15 each side)
  • Reverse Lunges (x20)
  • Kettle throws (10lbs)(x20)
  • TRX Rows (x10)
  • TRX Squats (x10)

Plus 10 minutes warm-up on eliptical, 20 min cool-down (I split it between treadmill and bike).

It was fun showing Tegmine my workout - he didn't know where I went after warm-up - I just kinda disappeared apparently. The 'cage' is around a corner and not very visible from the cardio side of the room.

Upper Endoscopy

So after the horrific Manometry I was terrified of the upper endoscopy. Alicia went with me for moral support. For this one I would have an IV put it, which also scared me - second IV I've had. The IV took two tries, but she got it in. They would sedate me - I wouldn't be 'out' but they said most patients do sleep through it. My brothers both told me horror stories of their experiences, so I was a bit worried. They had me in a hospital gown, laying sideways on a bed, and had me put a plastic thing in my mouth to make it easier for them to put the tube down my through, then sedation.

Procedure was easy - I did wake once, gagging on the tube, but I fell back asleep pretty quick. The next thing I knew I was waking in recover with Alicia by my bed. Much more pleasant experience then the Manometry! The IV did leave me with a pretty bruise though!

Consultation appointment with Bariatric Surgeon

So, though Dr. Beingesser recommended Dr. Swartz, and I do trust her opinion, I decided to go with Dr. Higa. Kim has been super with providing information and suggestions. Higa recommended the vertical sleeve gastrectomy (VSG or 'sleeve) over Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. I really had gone into this thinking I would just do the Roux-en-Y like my sister did, but I trust Higa, and this procedure can be converted later if I do not have the desired results long term. He was uncertain of the ovarian cyst removal at the same time, and so added imaging of that to my list of pre-op appointments:

  • Nutrition Class
  • Psychological Evaluation
  • Blood Labs
  • Manometry
  • Upper Endoscopy
  • Ovarian Cyst Imaging

I am happy with my decision, we will see where this takes me next...
